Combining immersive lighting, projection, lasers, holograms, special effects and sound, Aurora, Albury transformed Albury Botanic Gardens into an immersive nighttime experience across five consecutive years from 2022–2026.

The family-friendly Luna Light Journey creatively intertwined technology with nature, inviting audiences to discover the Gardens after dark through interactive digital art, vivid lighting, sensory effects and immersive soundscapes.

Launching in 2022, the inaugural Aurora attracted more than 60,000 visitors and was extended due to popular demand. Returning in 2023, the experience welcomed more than 43,000 visitors across 23 nights, further establishing Aurora as a major nighttime attraction for Albury-Wodonga and the wider Murray region.

Each season offered audiences a new experience. From revealing nature’s vibrant spirit in the early years, Aurora evolved into increasingly narrative-led journeys including Lost Astronaut in 2024, underwater adventure Tides of Treasure in 2025 and nature-inspired In Bloom in 2026.

Across five seasons, Laservision partnered with Albury City to continually reimagine Aurora, transforming the established trees, garden beds and pathways of Albury Botanic Gardens into an immersive nighttime experience.

CREATIVE

Show narrative

Laservision created a new Aurora narrative and immersive environment within Albury Botanic Gardens each season, combining technology, storytelling and the natural landscape.

In 2022 and 2023, Aurora celebrated nature’s vibrant spirit, transforming the Gardens through lighting, lasers, holograms, interactive projection and immersive sound.

In 2024, Lost Astronaut transported guests to an alien planet, following a stranded astronaut along a 550-metre journey to recover their spacecraft and find a way home.

In 2025, Tides of Treasure transformed the Gardens into an underwater world, where interactive marine life, holograms and bioluminescent effects guided guests on a search for hidden treasure.

In 2026, In Bloom celebrated nature through illuminated blooms, interactive installations, projection and sound, creating a colourful living landscape after dark.

TECHNICAL

INTERACTIVE PROJECTION & DIGITAL ART

Interactive projection and projection mapping were utilised across multiple Aurora seasons to transform natural surfaces into dynamic digital environments
Real-time interactive content allowed audiences to influence and engage with projected visuals
Bespoke digital art was developed for each year’s creative direction, from nature-inspired environments to alien landscapes and underwater worlds
Motion-responsive technology introduced new levels of audience interaction as Aurora evolved
Projection was carefully integrated into the Gardens to complement existing trees, pathways and landscaping

LASERS & LARGE-SCALE LIGHTING

High-powered lasers and large-scale lighting effects transformed the Gardens across multiple seasons
Lasers were choreographed with sound, lighting and atmospheric effects to create immersive environments around and above audiences
Existing trees and garden landscapes became canvases for large-scale colour, texture and movement
UV lighting, suspended light installations and illuminated pathways were introduced to create dramatically different environments between seasons
Lighting sequences were individually programmed to support each year’s narrative and creative concept

HOLOGRAMS & DIGITAL CHARACTERS

Holographic technology introduced digital creatures and characters into the physical landscape of the Gardens
Early Aurora experiences featured holographic creatures appearing amongst the natural environment
As Aurora became increasingly narrative-led, holograms were utilised to support characters and storytelling throughout the journey
Tides of Treasure expanded the technique through holographic marine life and underwater-inspired encounters

TECHNICAL EVOLUTION

Aurora’s technical design was continually redeveloped across five consecutive seasons from 2022–2026
Existing technology was reprogrammed and reimagined while new interactive systems, installations and effects were introduced
Technical design responded to each new narrative while working within the same established Botanic Garden environment

OPERATION

Operating a large-scale immersive experience night after night requires extensive planning, technical expertise and coordination.

Laservision’s Operations and Technical teams, working in partnership with AlburyCity, were responsible for ensuring Aurora remained show-ready throughout each season while managing the unique requirements of operating sophisticated multimedia technology within a living Botanic Garden.

Outdoor conditions, changing weather and thousands of guests moving through the Gardens required robust systems and ongoing monitoring. Lighting, projection, laser, audio, interactive and special-effects equipment was tested and maintained throughout each season to ensure a consistent audience experience.

Across five consecutive years, Laservision successfully delivered, operated and continually evolved Aurora, creating a fresh reason for audiences to return to Albury Botanic Gardens after dark.
