“A Unique, Intimate, and Beautiful Entertainment Offering!”

Concept

LASERVISION was commissioned by Aldar Properties PJSC (‘ALDAR’), Abu Dhabi’s leading listed property development, investment and management company, to create Abu Dhabi’s first light and water show at Reem Central Park, the AED 200 million, 1,000,000 square foot modern outdoor lifestyle destination on Reem Island.

Reem Central Park required a unique activation area to draw high footfall and longer dwell times to the F&B and Retail zones of the property. LASERVISION created its bespoke fountain sculpture and multimedia activations to work both day and night to continually be a drawcard for visitors to Reem Central Park.  The result is a stunning statement piece in the heart of the retail centre that transforms into an immersive entertainment experience.

The attraction, which opened on the 1st of December, 2018 provides a multi-sensory experience to visitors of Reem Central Park and is the basis for many ground-breaking productions, events and activations throughout the year.

The Wave

Bespoke Technology Sculpture

‘The Wave’ is a bespoke technology sculpture that melds beautiful modern art with the latest in entertainment technologies. This eye-catching art piece, at over 4 metres tall is the centrepiece for daily and nightly activations in Reem Central Park.

From daytime activations featuring relaxing ambient fountain states and ‘jazzy’ musical fountain shows through to nighttime entertainment events and activation, ‘The Wave’ adds a unique and enticing element at the heart of Reem Central Park.

As one of the most complex elements of the design and installation process, the intricate shape and structure of ‘The Wave’ needed to also discretely house a myriad of multimedia technologies. Fountains, pumps, LED lighting, as well as LASERVISION’s 9-metre, custom integrated water-curtain, needed to be precisely engineered into the structure without compromising the design aesthetic.

Designing an elegant and modern statement piece around these technologies and blending form with function was a huge collaborative effort between the in-house engineering and creative teams at LASERVISION.

Creative

With the initial brief of a premiere sea-side and experiential ‘Wow’ factor, LASERVISION’s in-house creative teams worked with the modern design language of ALDAR’s Master Plan and conceived the original design narrative, art direction, theming of the installation.

In addition to the concept and design, the LASERVISION creative team also developed the first main production to premiere at the park, ‘A Day at the Seaside’ as well as multiple activations, experiences and special events celebrating UAE National Day, New Year’s Eve and International Women’s Day.

Design Considerations

After reviewing audience traffic flows, LASERVISION wanted to position the audience 360-degrees around the sculpture for maximum exposure. To accomplish this, the LASERVISION team modelled various scenarios to optimise the position of the projectors and assets whilst minimising possible audience interference to the projection. The projector for the main screen was specifically positioned utilising a customised short throw lens to minimise any hotspots and mitigate audience interference in the projection zone.

LASERVISION also included many other media effects within the experience so patrons in retail and F&B areas could enjoy the experience too. One unique element added to capture audiences from multiple angle was one of the first permanently installed, underwater projection mapping solutions. Used to entertain and draw in patrons who are located in close vicinity to the feature and also on 1st-floor vantage points. The projection mediums along with atmospheric effects, fountains, lasers and high-definition audio, all add to the experience of creating the immersive entertainment feature for the largest audience possible.
