A new heartbeat for the Murray River region

Pioneer Settlement in Swan Hill is set to unveil a world-class, permanent attraction

Following a competitive tender process, Swan Hill Rural City Council engaged Laservision to design, develop and install a world-class, large-scale, nighttime attraction on the picturesque banks of the Little Murray River at Pioneer Settlement, Swan Hill. The state-of-the-art attraction is the centrepiece for the revitalisation of Pioneer Settlement, one of Victoria’s iconic regional attractions in its 50th year of operation.

An announcement in November 2014 of a joint investment of $2.8 million by the Victorian and Federal Governments towards the development of the ‘Heartbeat of the Murray’ experience laid the foundation. Additional contributions from Swan Hill Rural City Council, the Friends of Pioneer Settlement group and Swan Hill Inc. brought the project total to $3.85 million. The project includes a state-of-the-art multimedia laser light show, an augmented reality experience. Also included in the project is Dumosa Hall Café, Horseshoe Bend Park and a pontoon at the Lower Murray Inn.

The Federal Member for Mallee, Andrew Broad, anticipates the development of ‘Heartbeat of the Murray’ multimedia spectacular to, “significantly increase visitor numbers to the region, which will be a great boost to the local and regional economy.”

The redevelopment of Pioneer Settlement, Swan Hill will increase tourism to the region. Additionally, the attraction will provide economic benefits such as job creation for the local community and stimulate private sector investment in the settlement and surrounding Murray River region.

Laservision’s General Manager, Shannon Brooks says, “We are thrilled to deliver a spectacular new nighttime show experience on the banks of the Little Murray River. Our high-powered lasers, water screens with high-definition video projection, flame FX and mega media special FX, immerse audiences in the story of the Murray River. Along the way, highlighting its importance and history in a modern and entertaining way. The Laservision team is honoured to be appointed and deliver a project of such cultural significance to the community of Swan Hill and the broader Murray Region.”

The redevelopment is supported by the Federal and State Governments as well as the local Council and community as the project significantly enhances the cultural visitor experience at Swan Hill.

The Council’s Director of Infrastructure, David Leahy says, “This exciting new tourism project has provided additional economic benefits to the region with the appointment of local contractors who have been working alongside Laservision for the installation of equipment, civil and construction works. The Heartbeat of the Murray Spectacular is a new night-time experience for the Pioneer Settlement that expands the new day-visitor product — providing visitors to our region an experience they’ll never forget.”

‘The Heartbeat of the Murray’ nighttime spectacular is set to open to the public late in quarter four, 2015.
