The Venetian

Macau, China

The Venetian Macao Luxury Hotel and Casino Resort in Macau, China, is regarded as the largest casino in the world and the largest single-structure hotel in Asia. Located in Macau’s premier tourist and entertainment hub, the Cotai Strip, the hotel plays host to numerous special events throughout the year.

Engaged by the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, Laservision set out to design and implement a large-scale, video mapping, mega-media event, transforming the facades of the iconic Venetian Hotel into a digital canvas.

The concept was well received by the client and the public with Laservision commissioned to produce a further nine shows catering for The Venetian’s special event requirements throughout the year. Some of these productions included ‘Winter in Venice’, ‘Seasons of Prosperity’, ‘The Magical Masks of Venezia’ and New Year’s Eve Countdown events.

Since its inception, over 2,000 individual shows have been triggered with a 100% success rate.

TECHNICAL

Engaged by the leading developer and operator of integrated resorts in Macau, Laservision projected over half a million lumens of light power onto The Venetian’s vast facade. The show combines large-scale 3D video mapping technologies with special effects and an original sound score.

The complexities of the building’s architecture, limited projection locations, ambient light levels and reliable alignment of the projectors across the 4,000 square metre facade provided technical challenges however the Laservision team, consisting of 35 crew members from six countries, produced one of the world’s largest architectural 3D video mapping sound and light shows.

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

Implementing one of the world’s largest architectural 3D video mapping projects required a unique technical solution. Laservision’s Research and Development department worked closely with equipment manufacturers to provide a customised engineering solution capable of withstanding the extreme weather experienced in Macau. From tropical humid environments to typhoons, the technical design was developed to provide a reliable, repeatable and reprogrammable video mapping solution all year round.
