Combining immersive lighting, lasers, holograms, projection, light sculptures and sound, Nocturnal transformed Scenic World and the ancient rainforest of the Jamison Valley into an immersive nighttime adventure across two seasons.
Launching in 2024, the bespoke Luna Light Journey was a first for Scenic World and the Blue Mountains. Guests descended into the World Heritage-listed rainforest aboard the world’s steepest railway before exploring illuminated installations, holograms and projections beneath the canopy. For the first time, Scenic World’s iconic Railway, Cableway and Skyway also operated after dark.
The inaugural 22-night season proved highly successful, selling out 60% of nights, while remaining nights averaged above 70% capacity. Following its debut, Nocturnal returned in 2025 for an extended season with a completely reimagined journey celebrating the native wildlife and plant life of the Blue Mountains and Scenic World’s 80th anniversary.
Across both seasons, Laservision partnered with Scenic World to create, produce, install and operate Nocturnal, combining immersive technology with the extraordinary natural landscape of the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains and Gundungurra Country.

Laservision created Nocturnal to reveal a side of the Blue Mountains rarely experienced by visitors, combining immersive storytelling with the darkness, sounds and natural environment of the Jamison Valley.
In 2024, guests journeyed beneath the rainforest canopy to discover creatures of the night while searching for hidden clues that revealed the Gundungurra Creation Story. A Welcome to Country light installation, curated by Gundungurra Custodian Uncle David King, explored the Seven Sisters dreaming, journeys of night animals and connection to Country.
In 2025, Nocturnal was completely reimagined to celebrate Scenic World’s 80th anniversary, the native wildlife and plant life of the Blue Mountains and the site’s unique history. Holographic native animals, ancient rock formations and the hidden language of the forest brought the landscape to life after dark.

OPERATION
Delivering an immersive nighttime experience within the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains required careful planning, technical expertise and close coordination with Scenic World.
Laservision’s Operations and Technical teams, working in partnership with Scenic World, produced, installed and operated the Luna Light Journey within the Jamison Valley while integrating the experience with Scenic World’s existing attractions and infrastructure.
A defining operational element was opening Scenic World’s iconic rides after dark. Guests descended into the rainforest aboard the Scenic Railway, travelled between the valley and escarpment on the Scenic Cableway, and crossed 270 metres above the rainforest aboard the Scenic Skyway, providing an experience unique to Nocturnal.
Following the strong response to the inaugural 22-night season, Nocturnal returned in 2025 with an extended season and completely new creative treatment, demonstrating the potential for immersive nighttime experiences to extend visitation and transform an established daytime attraction after dark.
