Reef Lights, a spectacular kaleidoscope of colour transforms Cairns Esplanade & Lagoon for Cairns Festival – a 10-night celebration of arts, music and culture.
This original, immersive experience produced by Laservision imparts a story of environmental stewardship. Told through the eyes of Marla the Stingray, Marla voyages the expanse of the Great Barrier Reef to highlight our profound interconnectedness with the marine world.
Under the tutelage of Leigh Harris at Ingeous Studios, the spellbinding narrative, artwork and voiceover for the Lagoon water show were created by young, aspiring Indigenous creatives at Indigenous Design Labs (IDL).
Capturing the essence of the shared destinies of marine and human life, the show extends from the Lagoon to the Esplanade. Via interactive pathways interwoven with holograms, sculptures, lasers, lighting and special effects, Reef Lights comes to life.
Reef Lights were once again one of the big protagonists of Cairns Festival with thousands walking around the Esplanade to see the captivating lasers, digital artistry and entrancing soundscapes, plus the Lagoon lights and water show and its profound message on protecting the Reef”
Reef Lights celebrates the rich tapestry of Far North Queensland and lights up Cairns nightly, Friday 23 August – Sunday 1 September, 2024. In our third year of producing Reef Lights for Cairns Regional Council, view our original creations in 2022 and 2023.
